Sanctuary Sessions: Trad Music for Civil Rights Sunday, March 5th 12-2pm Caffe Lena, 47 Phila St. Saratoga Springs

On Sunday, March 5, Irish musicians and singers will gather in communities across the U.S. to play and sing in support of civil rights. The brainchild of a group of immigrant and U.S.-born musicians and music-lovers on the East Coast, this national event hopes to inspire a message of love, solidarity, and peace by sharing our music to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union.

"America is a nation of immigrants. Although traditional Irish music has taken root in this country, we should be mindful that it was brought here from Ireland and represents the hopes and experiences of those who carried it with them. “Sanctuary Sessions: Trad Music for Civil Rights” understands this and will be an important show of solidarity in support of a positive immigration policy. It should prove a landmark event and one that should recur in the future. There is strength in this traditional music community, and we’ll see it in action on March 5th." -- Daniel Neely [read the whole article here: http://irishecho.com/2017/02/trad-musicians-taking-a-stand/]

If you play Irish music, please bring your instrument and join in the fun. If you prefer to listen, we welcome you as well! Come for a tune or stay the whole time...

We'll be taking donations in the form of cash and checks made out to either the (ACLU (not deductible – allows lobbying) or ACLU Foundation (deductible – restrictions on lobbying).

Can't make it on Sunday? You can donate to the ACLU now at https://action.aclu.org/secure/protect-peoples-rights-liberties . (Please note your donation on this Facebook event page so that we can keep track of how much our Caffe Lena effort raises!)
