July Pop Up Lessons: Oona Notes #7.5

Hello friends - tagging on last week's message to let you know that I just posted July dates for pop up lessons, in case you are interested.

July 2nd, 9th, & 30th.  All the details are here.

If you know of someone who might be interested in lessons, please pass this on!

Besides teaching some lessons, other things I'm looking forward to in the month of July include: teaching (3) weeks of music camps! [see Educator]; performing at my hometown music festival GrassRoots with both Drank The Gold & The Grady Girls!; watching my garden flowers bloom!; swimming!; time with family and friends!; a fun new announcement from Drank The Gold 👀!; and more good news like Zohran Mamdani winning the NYC primary on Tuesday!

More soon.

Hello friends,

I've got lots to tell you - the tl:dr* of it all is:

*too long, didn't read

Okay, now for the long form message!

We've all got so much to learn, don't we?!  Or, I'll speak for myself - I definitely do.  About music, about human interaction, about life.

I know that I value every chance I get to be a student, and hope that my offerings as a teacher are inspiring and edifying to at least some of you out there.  I want to tell you about a lot of learning opportunities I'll be offering, but first - I have a question for you all, if you have a couple moments to answer.

In our education work lately, James and I have been realizing that we're not sure how everyone consumes media (recorded music).  As music teachers, we'd love to offer listening resources to our students, but struggle with the best medium in which to present it.  This question also comes up for us as recording artists - when we produce an album or a single, what is the best way to get it to your ears!?!

With that in mind, I am so curious (and grateful) to read your responses to our Media Accessibility Assessment.

As I hinted at earlier,

I'm doing a bunch of teaching this summer, with both familiar and new offerings.  Three summer camps - July 7th week @ Caffe Lena for ages 7-14, July 21st week @ Caffe Lena for ages 12-17 [NEW!], and right in the middle of that - July 14th week as part of an amazing faculty at GrassRoots Culture Camp, offering Irish fiddle lessons.

I just updated my EDUCATOR page with all of the specifics - check it out!

Besides working with the students already in my private lesson studio, new this summer I am offering a limited number of POP UP lesson days for students who want to drop in.  Learn more about that here.

Okay, as promised, an Orchid Report!

If you've been reading along since last message (mid April), you know that I've been tending to a flock of orphan orchids who are finally starting to bloom.  All five of them are going gangbusters - enjoy this little video I made of them earlier today.  I've got a head cold at the moment, but looking at them is really cheering me up!

Thanks for reading this far - I've got three more Drank The Gold bits

First - thank you all for listening to our new single, The Song of Wandering Aengus, out on Bandcamp now.  Please share it around to anyone who you think might enjoy it!  We are working on sharing it via other media sources, though it feels like a confusing wild west out there in music industry-land [ah, yes, back to that media survey!].  We'd love to hear if you have any insights to share!

Second - we are playing at our favorite Galway, NY, steakhouse The Cock 'n Bull this Friday June 20th from 6-9 PM.  Enjoy a solstice dinner with us!  Reservations recommended: 518-882-6962.

Last - tune in to wextradio.org this evening [Tuesday 6/17] at 8pm ET to hear a re-broadcast of our May 11th performance at Caffe Lena.  It was a super special show, and we're excited to re-live it!

I look forward to meeting you on the dusty trail and I always love to hear from you if you feel like dropping a line!
