Adventures! Oona Notes #2

Hello friends,

As they* say, life's an adventure - and I can attest that the musical life certainly is.  Recently, through music, I've gotten to go sailing in a ~100 wooden ship off the coast of Maine, take a day trip to the mountains of Connecticut, delve into the minutia of upper back posture health, revisit old classical violin pieces.. and I could go on.

(*I have no idea who "they" are, but surely someone's said it!?)

As with your classic adventure story, the beginning of the adventure is filled with promise and bright expectations.  Somewhere along the way you find yourself plodding through the valley of doubt, realizing that some hard and possibly uncomfortable work is necessary to make it out the other end.  You may even consider "jumping ship"!   Inevitably, once all is said and done, you look back at the experience with fondness or at least gratitude for lessons learned along the way.

Alright, because you asked nicely, I'll share a couple shots from Drank The Gold's sailing adventure on the Schooner American Eagle at the end of this message :-).

First I'd like to tell you about today's adventure, which involves performing in one of the best sounding barn/restaurant/venues in the Capital Region: The Cock 'n Bull Restaurant.  James and I have gathered up some of our best musical pals to make a five piece country/blues/bluegrass band.  We're calling it The Millstone Rounders.  Today's show will feature Chris Carey on guitar, Scott Hopkins on banjo, and Eric Marjan on bass.  Music starts around 6pm.  Reservations at 518-882-6962.  $15 suggested contribution.

Another adventure worth mentioning is Friday's Another Ooky Spooky Musical Showcase at the Cohoes Music Hall.  Organized by Zan Strumfeld and Michael Gregg of Zan and the Winter Folk, the evening will feature newly composed songs inspired by real life mecaubre stories from historical newspaper accounts published in Capital Region papers.  Our story features an 1871 train robbery/murder over the Hudon river- well, partly botched, but I can't give away what part was botched.  Click on the link for all the details about the other performers, and to get your tickets today!

I've got some more adventures on the horizon - I'm sure I'll have more stories to share soon!
