The Grady Girls (family band from Ithaca, NY) and Kara Doyle (uilleann piper based in the Capital District) are joining forces this Saint Patricks Day to present a concert of Irish music.

They have crafted a program to celebrate female voices in Irish music, featuring music written by and about women, and tunes learned from female Irish musicians.

All seasoned performers and experts in the genre, expect some toe tapping dance rhythms and ear tickling melodies, with some interesting commentary to boot.

Toe tapping, heart lifting, subtle and smiling, The Grady Girls breathe new life into timeless Irish dance tunes. Family ties are important to these women who have traveled far and wide (Cork, Limerick, Spain and beyond) to study and perform the traditional music of Ireland, music that has been an integral part of their lives since day one.

Nora (fiddle), Marie (flute), Leah (bodhrán), and Saoirse (fiddle) are based in Ithaca, NY, their hometown, and currently draw musical inspiration from the continuous stream of Irish musicians passing through town, and their old time neighbors, exploring the links between different genres of traditional music.

Oona (fiddle) and newest band member James (guitar), both reside in Saratoga Springs, where they perform as the duo Drank The Gold. They can't help but make frequent trips back to Ithaca, though, to join the rest of the Grady Girls and their irresistible, powerful sound.

Kara Doyle was born in Wisconsin, and spent her youth in California. Moving to the Northeast brought her into regular contact with Irish music, and she began to play whistle in 1995. She contracted a severe case of uilleann piping fever in the late nineties, and obtained her first set just after the turn of the millennium. Kara has been very strongly influenced in tone, repertoire, and pedagogy by the teaching of Benedict Koehler and Brian McNamara, and aspires to both the tightness of Tommy Reck and the lyrical musicality of Mick OBrien. She lives and plays in Schenectady, New York.
